Simplicity. Simple is sometimes best

People are serving more wine these days than liquor at dinner parties, whether they are family affairs or not. The host or hostess may be spending way too much time deciding what to buy and serve. Don’t.

The thing that matters most of all is that you want a wine that is not too sweet to go with the food. Unless of course your choosing a wine for a dessert course.

The type of wine is really not the problem or concern, it is the quantity. Many people, who are still new to wine consumption, still associate it with spirits, and spirits are something we all learned to pour sparingly.

It is important you purchase enough wine so that everyone gets more than a thimbleful. Economics comes into play here, also the ethical consideration on not serving more than a friend or relative can handle. A person, who consumes a bottle of wine over the course of a three hour meal, is in far better shape than one who downs three Martini’s before and during a business luncheon.

There is no need to spend a lot of money on wine, no matter who the guests are. Oh, you might find some boorish types who will turn their nose up at a wine they consider lesser than others, but they are rare and usually speak only after seeing the label.

A true wine lover, including owners of great Chateau’s in France, and famous California wineries, get immense pleasure from drinking all types of wines, especially when shared in good company.

Wine is meant to be enjoyed and drunk. There are drunkards who drink wine, but they would be drunkards whether they had wine or not.

One of the reasons that wine has been men’s and women’s favorite beverage since it seems almost forever, is the fact that its alcoholic content is perfectly balanced by the pace which we eat and the amounts we eat.

There are excellent bargains in your favorite wine shops right now, including California, French and Italian wines. Most better, wine shops, offer a discount on the purchase of six bottles or more. This is the smart way to purchase and you will always have plenty on hand.

 Wine quote for the week

“ To Italian’s the only wrong wine, is no wine at all.”  Vince the Wine Guy.

Till next time, Good Health and Peace to all.  Salute = sah-LOO-tay
